Bachchan Jr and Aishwarya have turned mythological these days, thanks to Mani Ratnam's RAVAANA where they play the title role and Sita respectively. The film is now being shot in Kolkata. A light-heated tete-a-tete with the duo on 'intense' factors of life.

Why is that no unit member ready to tell what RAVAANA is going to be like? Abhishek: Because, he (Ravaana) is not a cool guy to mess up with (bursts into laughter). I will answer that...it's because of a few reasons. The film is director Mani Ratnam's dream project and a tough one too. It's not a modern-day Ramayana, but Mani's own interpretation of the epic set in today's time. So, all cast and crew need to focus intensely on their roles to understand the character and interpret it on-screen. There must not be any interferences or diversions. Besides, it's not the right time to promote the film...we are still shooting for it. If we talk to media about it now, there are ample chances that journos will misinterpret the entire thing and hence it will send wrong vibes to the audience. But, despite your tight schedule, you made it to DELHI 6 premiere and Filmfare Awards ? That's what love makes you do dear. I wanted to be with Abhishek my best pal and hubby-to encourage him on the release of his new film. And, Filmfare Awards is the Oscar of Bollywood. So, really couldn't afford to miss on that.


So Aishwarya is playing 'Sita' and Abhishek 'Ravaana' ? My name in the film is not 'Sita' (at least, as of now). But the character I play have traits of Sita. Abhishek: Yes, I am playing 'Ravaana'.


In Ramayana, Sita is faithful only to Ram. But here at the shoots, we are seeing a Sita dancing with Ravaana? Abhishek: Actually, I bribed the scriptwriter so that I am allowed to romance my wife on-screen, no matter what roles we play. On a more serious note, I told you it's a Mani Ratnam film and to know the truth audience have to wait for the release of the film.


This is your sixth film together. Any complaints against each other as co-actors? Abhishek: Sachch bolke biwi haathon pithna nehi hai! (laughs aloud) No...honestly...no complaints. Ash is the best co-actor one can ever get. She is one of the biggest stars of Bollywood and a name in Hollywood, still she is so down-to-earth. She makes her co-actor comfortable from Scene 1, irrespective of the fact whether he is a star or a newcomer. Abhishek and I have never been paired the conventional way-as in, man-wife, on-screen. Starting from DHAI AKSHAR PREM KE , where we were pretending as husband-wife, to KUCHH NA KAHO, where I am someone else's wife and still fall in love with him, or UMRAO JAAN , where it's a failed love story, and SARKAR RAJ, where he is a married man, we hardly got to be romantic on screen. Even in GURU, it's all about the protagonist's life story. I really wished someone to cast us as romantic pair, hopefully that's going to happen in Rajeev Menon's DHUN.



We heard that DHUN is a remake of Amitabh-Jaya starrer ABHIMAAN? Abhishek: The script is somewhat similar, but it's not a remake. How can one even think of remaking a masterpiece like ABHIMAAN! It's a musical love story.


Abhimaan is often said to be based on real life story of Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan... Abhishek: It's surprising that the media know more about my parents than I do. I don't think it's good to mix reel and real life.

My question is, how much chances are there for a ABHIMAAN-like situation in your life? Abhi-Ash: Zero percent. Abhishek: Let me clarify, we are all grown-ups and hardcore professionals. Be it pa or ma, or me or Ash, we have learnt to keep our work outside before getting inside our home. There is no competition and can't be. We are all different individuals with our respective style of work. We are all very secure about our professional as well as personal life.

Aren't you a little upset not getting a Padma Shri like Ash? Abhishek: Not at all. I don't think I have done anything to deserve that honour so far. On second thoughts, I have got a Padma Shri -whatever belongs to me is Ash's and vice-versa. So her award is mine as well.


So you are happy for her? Abhishek: Wish could explain my happiness for her. I am so proud that my girl has got the honour she deserves for years. Abhishek is my source of inspiration. He is always so supportive. Whenever I am confused and don't know what to do, I look at him and he solves the duality in me like magic. He is the real 'Padma Shri' and I'm his 'Padma Shrimati' (giggles).

You are going to complete two years of marriage. Any special plans for your anniversary? Abhishek: That's for us to do and us to know. I am sure loads of pleasant surprises are awaiting me. Abhishek: And for me too.

Aishwarya Rai Shoots Robot title song

Robot (Endhiran) is one of the most stylish and lavishly produced films in the making. The film is being made with a budget of 140 crore. The film is a dream project of director Shankar. Sun Pictures, a division of Sun TV Network is producing the film. Rajnikanth and Aishwarya Rai are the lead actors.

A special set has been erected at a studio in Hyderabad to shoot the title song. AR Rahman has already composed the music for the song and it has been rendered by Madhusri. The song will be filmed on a lavish scale and more than 1,000 group dancers in silver white robot costumes will take part in the song sequence.

Ash is upset with Priyanka

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is upset with Priyanka Chopra for calling her beautiful but not mentioning her acting talent when she received the Filmfare best actress award.

While Priyanka Chopra is riding high after winning the Filmfare best actress award for her role in Fashion, things are not hunky dory for her on another level. Known for her usually restrained image and ever so politically correct statements, Priyanka rubbed Aishwarya Rai Bachchan the wrong way while giving her thank you speech after she received the award. This incident follows Priyanka's fallout with once-upon-a-time good friend Abhishek Bachchan who too is upset with Priyanka for wanting to groove to the same song ('Ma da laadla' from Dostana) which he had selected for the same function.

Priyanka said that she was very happy to be nominated (Fashion, Dostana) among the likes of the beautiful Aishwarya Rai (Jodhaa Akbar) and the talented Kajol (U, Me Aur Hum). Priyanka's euphoric statement however hasn't gone down well with Aishwarya.

Aishwarya is annoyed that Priyanka called her beautiful but said nothing about her acting talent.

An actor who was present at the function said, on condition of anonymity, "Priyanka should have chosen her words carefully. How can Priyanka sideline Aishwarya's acting abilities?"

"Aishwarya rarely loses her cool. But this time, she did. She is mighty upset with Priyanka," added our source.

We sent three text messages to Aishwarya but she did not reply. Priyanka too did not reply to our text messages.

With Randhir Kapoor making his comeback from his retirement, it seems the Bollywood oldies are too keen to start their second innings in the glitzy tinsel town. According to latest buzz, Bollywood maverick Vipul Shah has penned a role especially for Randhir Kapoor in his latest flick ‘Action Replay’. Added to this, the film will bring rivals ‘Bachchans’ and ‘Kapoors’ together as the film stars none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan opposite Akshay Kumar.


Off late, the last time Randhir Kapoor graced silver screen was with Honey Irani’s ‘Armaan’, where he essayed the role of a father to vivacious Preity Zinta.

According to Vipul, he is all excited about Randhir Kapoor in ‘Action Replay’. A newspaper quoted Vipul Shah as saying, "I`m a fan of Randhir and Rishi Kapoor. It was a dream come true when I got a chance to work with Chintuji in ‘Namastey London’. Look at how many wonderful roles and films he signed after that. Now I`m hoping that after ‘Instant Replay’, Randhirji too will be doing more films."

Randhir Kapoor will be seen as a scientist in his engrossing time traveling tale. Elucidating about the film, Vipul said, "Randhirji doesn`t play a mad scientist with his hair flying rebelliously and all kinds of fumes and fires escaping from the lab. He plays a calm scientist lost in his own world."

Aishwarya pairs with will smith?

For how long have we been hearing of a possible pairing up of Aishwarya Rai and Hollywood star Will Smith?

There has been no dearth of film offers for Ash despite her married status. She is already on the wish list of Oscar-winner Ben Kingsley and has been in talks with Will Smith for about three years for a project that doesn’t seem to take off.

Things have been turning out such that when Smith is free, Ash is busy, and vice versa.

Expressing her disappointment, Ash is quoted as saying by a leading news daily: "What can I say, our dates just don't work out. I’m also keen to work with him (Smith)."

Ash is presently shooting for Mani Ratnam's film Ravana on the outskirts of Kolkata. Apart from this, she is committed to Tamil film 'Endhiran' ( Robot ) and has also signed a film called Action Replay with Akshay Kumar and a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie co-starring Hrithik Roshan .

Music director duo Vishal-Shekar has discovered a new voice. And it's none other than that of our very own Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

According to reports, there was a rumour floating around some months back that the actress has sung a song for the forthcoming Mani Rathnam film Ravana.

It is now being said that Vishal-Shekar are getting the actress to discover a new side to her talent, having signed her for a song.

Shekhar was quoted as saying, "We ve talked her into singing a song for us and we re going to record it very soon."

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was all praises for A R Rahman. Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, she stated that she was overjoyed at Rahman’s double Oscar win. The actress is currently in Kolkata participating in the shooting of her upcoming film Ravana. Ash is in fact the most fortunate as Rahman had composed for most of her films compared to any other actor or actress.

She was quoted as saying, “Working with Rahman has been an absolute pleasure. It's not just from Taal to Guru, but it's from 'Iruvar' till 'Ravana'. In fact, maximum of my films have enjoyed the music of Rahman and as a music lover and fan, I have always admired his music and he is a gifted musician,” stated the former Miss World.

Your latest Hollywood outing sees you in an avatar which is far from your leading lady image...
It’s not about whether I’m the leading lady in a project or who my co-star is. For me, the film-maker, script and role are deciding factors. And I have always tried to defy the obvious and test myriad characters. That’s why there’s an Iruvar, Josh, Khakee, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Devdas, Raincoat, Chokher Bali and Shabd to name a few. As they have been saying in the West, ‘She is not house-hunting in Hollywood’. In fact, I’ve never done that. I’ve not gone to them looking for work.

Could you be explicit about your character, Sonia, in the Hollywood flick?
The role is in keeping with the film’s genre. It is a Clouseau vehicle and not an acting piece. Sonia is pivotal to the drama. But if you ask if the story revolves around her, the answer would be in the negative. In fact, all the other members of the cast other than Clouseau, are character actors here. The ensemble cast is fantastic. It’s like a Chaplin or a Laurel Hardy comedy.

What will be your response to detractors calling your role in the film a blink-and-miss one?
It would be a ridiculous response from those who know about the Pink Panther series. And for those who don’t, I would say that if they’ve accepted me in a Khakee and a Mohabbatein and weren’t so myopic then, why do they have to do it now? It’s just cinema.

Is it pressurising for you to choose the right project?
We, actors are very greedy. We’d love to do it all. Variety excites us. I’m blessed that I’m spoilt for choice in terms of projects. Time, schedule, the combo of script, role, film-maker and sometimes, my instinct, determine whether or not I’ll give my nod to a project.

What’s your take on Abhishek’s Delhi 6 and his on your next international release?
I enjoyed the latest from his stable. It speaks of an issue without being too heavy. We keep discussing how both films have a fantastic ensemble cast.

So, who do you think Abhishek rocks with on screen?
I’ve never got down to looking at it that way. Come to think of it, we both have been paired the maximum together. You know, apart from many factors, availability also becomes a criterion in such cases.

And what do you have to say about the Slumdog Millionaire bashing?
I haven’t yet watched SM, thanks to my schedule. But I’d say, it’s just a movie. Danny Boyle wasn’t trying to make a statement. It’s an international film after all, and you have to acknowledge Danny. And we are happy about Rahman, Resul and Gulzar saab. It’s time we applaud and appreciate an accomplishment.

What about Bengali ventures?
Well, Rituda has been trying to meet me during my stay here. In fact, I’m always open to working with him. He keeps talking about his ideas with me and there’s an idea that we are discussing.

Q. A lot has been speculated about your role, can you please elaborate on your character in the movie?

I play Sonia, a writer and authority on the Tornado who steals valuable artifacts from all over the world. And I am an essential part of the dream team who is trying to find the Tornado. But at the same time while Sonia is not a detective per se, she plays a very essential element and an almost important part of the dream team trying to unravel the mystery of the missing Pink Panther and trying to nail The Tornado.
Q. What you have to say about the story of the movie?

In this sequel, Inspector Clouseau along with a team of international detectives is assigned to catch The Tornado, the thief and retrieve the stolen legendary treasures & artifacts from around the world. It’s 'The Pink Panther' movie. It’s all about Clouseau and his adventures while trying to solve a mystery, and that’s essentially it.

Q. What according to you is the highlight of the film?

Apart from Steve Martin who plays Inspector Clouseau, I think what’s the best part of this particular movie is this fantastic ensemble in terms of the kind of cast that’s come together to create these various different characters. I think it was a wonderful idea to come up with a dream team, so you’ve actually pulled in characters from different parts of the world – you’ve got all these different nationalities – so you pick it up as the world’s getting smaller.

And your audience as multi-national as it is I think people kind of pick up the different parts of the world that these detectives have come from, they come together, and they bring in their own little expertise and their own little characteristics and their own little charm. And yet it’s so Clouseau, and hence his team is quite an extension of him.

Q. How was your experience working with the huge international ensemble cast?

It was wonderful working with the entire team. It was wonderful actors coming together. I mean Steve Martin is fantastic as Clouseau. And I’ve been an audience to all the actors in the movie and I’ve always enjoyed watching their work. So it was great working with Steve and Andy and Alfred and Emily and John Cleese. It was truly a great ensemble cast.

Q. What you have to say about your director Harald Zwart?

Oh, he is great to work with. He keeps everyone moving and brings lot of good and positive energy. And he’s got great sensibilities for a comedy. It was real fun working with him on sets.

Q. Did you find shooting an American film in Paris and Boston very different from movie making at home in India?

No, I have never looked at it as different. I think each experience remains individual depending on the director and the core team members that make the movie—irrespective of the language it’s being made in.

THE BACHCHAN Bahu and winner of the Padmashri Award, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, seems all set to play her part as Sita like a perfectionist in Mani Ratnam’s forthcoming film, Ravana. Ash has been cast opposite her dear hubby, Abhishek Bachchan, in the film.

Those who saw her during the shooting of this film on the banks of the river ‘Hoogly’ in Kolkata, said that the actress truly looked like the modern version of Goddess Sita in her maroon sari with a black sleeveless top and hardly any ornaments to adorn her. Ash’s Sita look has been created by noted designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.

Earlier, Ash has been seen in various different kinds of roles and has done justice to them. All of Ash’s fans out there are sure that she will portray a remarkable role equally remarkably this time around in Ravana too. While her look in the movie is certainly something to watch out for, let’s hope her acting is likewise and that she does not disappoint us!

aishwarya ready to scream from rooftops to promote Delhi 6

Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan is promoting his new flick Delhi 6, and is so excited that he wants to scream from the roof tops and ask people to go watch his film.

During an interview on his recent visit to London, the actor said that the movie, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, would hit the right chord with people living away from India.

I think especially for a lot of people here in the UK or anyone living outside India whose families are from there will associate with the film, the BBC quoted him as saying.

He added: It’’s the journey of one boy who goes back home to Delhi from New York. It’’s really going to touch a chord with people who know what it feels like to spend a lot of time outside their homeland. I”m very proud of the film. I saw the rough cut of the film and I”m immensely proud. I want to scream from the rooftops ”people go watch this film”. It’’s a good film.

On working with some of Bollywood’’s legends in the film, like Waheeda Rehman and Rishi Kapoor, the Guru actor said: Brilliant! Brilliant! I think the greatest thing about them is they”re more like kids on set. You go there thinking I”m just going to absorb and learn from these great actors but you end up realising they”re actually observing you and learning from you. That’’s what makes them great!

Speaking about his co-star in the film, Sonam Kapoor, Abhishek said: She’’s such a wonderful young actress and I wish her all the best because I think she’’s done a very commendable job in the movie. She’’s someone who’’s really going to leave her stamp on Indian movies. She’’s great fun and a pleasure to be with on set.

On the character in the film named after an Indian sweet, Jalebi, he said: Jalebi is played by Divya Dutta, another wonderful actor. That’’s just it - it’’s a huge bouquet of wonderful characters - it’’s just wonderful to be part of it.

When asked about his next film with wife Aishwarya Rai, the 33-year-old star said: We”re currently shooting a film with Director Mani Ratnam in India which hasn”t got a title yet but will be ready by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Abhisheks wife Aishwarya is all set to woo the audiences in Pink Panther 2 alongside Steve Martin.

It may sound weird but it's true that the Bachchan family revolves around films. They don't find time for each other because of their film commitments, and in the meantime, it is films that bring them together. For instance, the Bachchans – Amitabh, Jaya, Abhishek and Aishwarya were held up at different places till lately. However, they all are set to come to Delhi for the premiere of Delhi-6, in which Abhishek plays the lead role along with Sonam Kapoor.


“I prepare to leave for Delhi for Delhi 6 ! Abhishek has just landed from Dubai into Delhi, after the premier in Dubai. Aishwarya shooting on the outskirts of Kolkata will come in by the evening to Delhi and Jaya is already there because of Parliament. It is these strange travel combinations that bring us together nowadays,” wrote Amitabh Bachchan on his blog bigb.bigadda.com.



The superstar revealed that staying away from each other is not something they can avoid. “It is distracting to be away. But not something that can be avoided. Soon I would believe, we would all have to just put our foot down, take a break and go off somewhere to just be together,” he said.

Aishwarya Rai Tops List Of Most Bankable Indian Actor

The 'Slumdog Millionaire' may be the toast of the season with its bouquet of Oscar nominations, but Aishwarya Rai has emerged as the most bankable star from India in Hollywood and has been ranked even more valuable than the Khans of Bollywood in a new Forbes list.

Rai is among half a dozen Bollywood actors on the list of "Hollywood's Most Valuable Actors", compiled by the American publication known for its rankings of the world's richest persons.

Other Indians on the list include Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Irrfan Khan and Hrithik Roshan.

Although at 387th position in the global list of as many as 1,411 actors from across the world, Rai is ranked highest among all the Indian actors and is the only female actor from the country having made to this elite club.

Besides six actors from India, the list also includes one American actor Kal Penn, who is of Indian origin and has starred in movies like The Namesake. At 476th position, Penn is ranked higher than all the Bollywood actors, except Aishwarya Rai, who stars in the new Hollywood venture, ‘The Pink Panther 2’.

Abhi-Ash starrer name Crooked by Ritesh Sidhwani

BOLYWOoD ’S favorite couple Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan may have just returned from a grueling shooting schedule for Mani Ratnam’s ‘Raavana’ (working title) but that hasn’t deterred them from signing yet another film together.
Abhi-Ash would be starring in Excel Entertainment’s future project to be directed by Abhinay Deo (of ‘Delhi Belly’ fame).
When will the film go on floors and where it would be filmed? “The film goes on floors on June 15 and we wrap up by October 8.
We would be shooting in Greece, Istanbul, London and Thailand,” states Ritesh.
But the film has met with a lot of speculation ever since that the film has been titled ‘Crooked.' To get the facts straight, we got in touch with Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel. ‘Crooked’ is just the working title. We are still contemplating whether to use it or go in with a Hindi title.” The last time Ritesh had spoken to us, he had said that besides Abhi-Ash the film would also star four other actors.
So have they signed anyone as yet, “Yes, besides Abhishek and Aishwarya, the film will also star Boman Irani and Jimmy Sheirgill. We are yet to finalize a couple of other actors and would be making an announcement soon," signs off Ritesh.
The film is a thriller and for a change Abhishek and Aishwarya are not paired opposite each other in this film.

Aishwarya Ketan Mehta's New Rani of Jhansi

Ketan Mehta decides to revive Rani Laxmibai after hearing that Sushmita Sen’s film based on the same subject has been shelved. Aishwarya Rai
might play the title role in Ketan’s film.
Sushmita Sen’s loss is Ketan Mehta’s gain. After Sushmita’s directorial debut based on Rani Laxmibai was shelved, Ketan Mehta wasted no time in grabbing the opportunity to revive his magnum opus based on the same subject. Incidentally, Ketan had aborted his project after he got to know that Sushmita was making a film on similar lines.
But now, with Sushmita shelving her project, Ketan is more than happy to revive his project. A source said, “When Ketan learnt that Sushmita is no longer making Rani Laxmibai, he immediately got back into action to revive his erstwhile abandoned project. He is now working on the film and is also in talks with Aishwarya Rai to play the title role.”
Ketan Mehta confirmed the news and said, “Yes, I am planning to revive the project.”
Commenting on the reason behind Ketan stalling his film earlier, a source close to Ketan’s production unit said, “Ketan had started work on the period film, which is based on the life and times of the famous Hindu warrior queen of Jhansi, Rani Laxmibai.

During the scripting and pre-production stage, Ketan had signed Aishwarya Rai to play the lead role. In fact, Aishwarya was all set to undergo training in horse-riding, sword fighting etc to prepare for the role.
